What exactly does frontlit and backlit mean?
When it comes to the lighting styles of LED mirrors there’s basically 3 differnet types. Frontlit, backlit or front and backlit and the names mean just that.
With a frontlit mirror there is light shining through the glass and that light is coming forward or at you. This effect is created by removing the paint, silver and protection layers from the back of the mirror just leaving the clear glass, then etching or ‘frosting’ a section which is typically a boarder around the mirror. This section allows light to pass through it but visually you cant see any details behind it. This style adds some flare and design if you’re wanting your mirror to stand out a bit more. It also has the benifit of providing more light to the objects directly in front of it.
Where as a backlit mirror is the oppisite. With a backlit model the mirror is fully entact so the light cannot pass through the glass, only travel around it. This creates a beautiful halo effect and is your more tradtional LED mirror. This design is great if you’re wanting a more subtle LED mirror and can also act as just a plain regular mirror when off.
Lastly we have frontlit and backlit which is both styles on the one mirror. Most frontlit models will actually be both (such as our Lume) but occasionally you will fine a frontlit only.
